The 2027 Genesis GV60 Magma is the first dedicated high-performance production model from Genesis, and it takes the familiar GV60 formula in a very different direction. I recently had an early look at the GV60 Magma during the Drive Revolution media event in Vancouver, Washington, and this is much more than a styling package with extra power.
The Magma uses a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing around 600 horsepower in normal operation and up to 641 horsepower in Boost Mode, along with 583 lb-ft of torque. Genesis says that is enough for a zero-to-60 mph time of about 3.4 seconds, putting this compact luxury EV into serious performance-car territory.
If the GV60 Magma is on your shopping list, compare current dealer pricing and local offers at Quotes.EverymanDriver.com before deciding whether the extra performance is worth the jump over a regular GV60. The Magma starts at $69,950 before destination, which puts it well above the standard AWD and Prestige versions.
The biggest tradeoff is range. The Magma uses an 84-kWh battery and carries an EPA-estimated range of about 222 miles. That is considerably less than the regular GV60 lineup, so buyers need to decide whether the additional power, chassis tuning and performance hardware are worth giving up some day-to-day driving range.
Charging helps offset that limitation. Under ideal conditions, Genesis says the GV60 Magma can charge from 10 to 80 percent in as little as 18 minutes. A native NACS charging port also gives buyers access to compatible Tesla Superchargers along with other public charging networks, which should make longer trips easier to manage.
Inside, the Magma gets a much more performance-focused treatment than the regular GV60. It features Genesis’ first dedicated performance bucket seats, suede upholstery with Magma Orange stitching, a unique steering wheel with performance controls and a 27-inch integrated OLED display. You still get the upscale design and materials expected from Genesis, but the cabin clearly has a different mission.
There is also a long list of performance technology, including Boost Mode, Launch Control, GT Mode, Sprint Mode, Drift capability, Active Sound Design and Virtual Gear Shift. That last feature simulates gear changes and the sensation of an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission in an effort to make the driving experience more engaging than a typical high-performance EV.
Despite all the performance upgrades, the GV60 Magma is still a practical five-passenger crossover with usable rear-seat and cargo space. That makes it easier to live with every day than a traditional two-seat sports car, and buyers can still use it for commuting, errands, family duty and weekend trips.
The value question is important because a regular GV60 AWD starts substantially lower, while the better-equipped Prestige AWD also costs much less than the Magma. What you are paying for is not simply more luxury. You are paying for the widened bodywork, forged wheels, performance suspension, stronger brakes, unique interior, specialized driving modes and a dramatic increase in power.
If you are cross-shopping, I would also look at vehicles such as the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N and Kia EV6 GT. Those alternatives follow a similar high-performance EV formula, while the Genesis puts more emphasis on luxury materials, design and exclusivity. The Magma makes the most sense for buyers who specifically want the performance version, not simply the most expensive GV60.

The bottom line is that the 2027 Genesis GV60 Magma is built for buyers who are willing to trade range and value for performance, character and exclusivity. If 222 miles of range fits your daily routine and the idea of 641 horsepower in a luxury crossover is exactly what you are looking for, the Magma has a clear purpose.
