The 2027 Jeep Cherokee returns with a very different formula than many shoppers may remember. I recently had an early look at the Cherokee Overland 4×4 Hybrid during the Drive Revolution media event in Vancouver, Washington, and the biggest change is under the hood: the Cherokee is now built around a hybrid powertrain, standard four-wheel drive and a much more modern interior.
Power comes from a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder paired with two electric motors and a hybrid battery. Total output is 210 horsepower and 230 lb-ft of torque. This is a conventional hybrid, so there is nothing to plug in. You simply fill it with gasoline and drive while the Cherokee manages the electric portion of the system automatically.
If the 2027 Jeep Cherokee is on your shopping list, compare current dealer pricing and local offers at Quotes.EverymanDriver.com before choosing a trim. The important thing to remember is that you do not need the Overland to get the hybrid powertrain or four-wheel drive, so comparing prices between trims could save you several thousand dollars.
Efficiency is one of the strongest reasons to look at the new Cherokee. Jeep estimates roughly 37 mpg combined along with more than 500 miles of total driving range. The Cherokee also comes standard with Jeep Active Drive I four-wheel drive, which can disconnect the rear axle when additional traction is not needed to help improve efficiency. Selec-Terrain gives drivers Auto, Sport, Snow and Sand/Mud settings for changing conditions.
Inside, the Cherokee has taken a major step forward. Every trim gets a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Standard driver-assistance technology includes features such as automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic detection and Active Driving Assist with adaptive cruise control.
The Overland builds on that with more comfort and convenience equipment. Depending on configuration, buyers can add or receive features such as ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, premium audio, a digital rearview mirror, a 360-degree camera, a dual-pane sunroof and a hands-free power liftgate. That is really what you are paying for when moving up to the Overland—the underlying hybrid and 4×4 hardware is already available farther down the lineup.
Passenger and cargo space are also improved compared with the previous Cherokee. The redesigned body is longer, wider and taller, giving passengers more usable room while the boxier shape makes the cargo area easier to load. Jeep says cargo capacity has increased by roughly 30 percent, which should make the Cherokee more competitive for families carrying strollers, sports equipment, pets or road-trip luggage.
The Cherokee still maintains some traditional Jeep capability as well. Ground clearance is around 8 inches, standard 4×4 gives it an advantage in poor weather, and the selectable terrain modes should be useful for snow, gravel roads and light off-pavement driving. It is not intended to replace a Wrangler, but it offers more adventure-oriented capability than many conventional family crossovers.
If you are shopping the Cherokee Hybrid, I would also compare it with the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, Honda CR-V Hybrid and Subaru Forester. Toyota and Honda have well-established hybrid options, while Subaru brings its own strong AWD reputation. The Cherokee’s argument is the combination of hybrid efficiency, standard four-wheel drive, useful family space and a little more traditional Jeep character.

The bottom line is that the 2027 Jeep Cherokee Overland 4×4 Hybrid makes the most sense for buyers who want the Cherokee’s new hybrid and standard 4×4 formula but also value the additional comfort, technology and upscale equipment of the Overland trim. If those luxury features are not priorities, a lower Cherokee trim may give you most of the important mechanical hardware for less money.
