2021 Cadillac XT6 Full Review (plus Video) on Everyman Driver

The Cadillac XT6 crossover proves you don’t need a full-size SUV to experience three-row space and comfort. Its sporty dimensions make the XT6 easy to drive the kids to school and park in compact spaces, while a plush cabin awaits long commutes and road trips. The XT6 is available with turbo four-cylinder or V6 engines, with available all-wheel-drive for extra peace of mind. Standard driver safety aids help keep everyone safe while on the road.

Pros: Contemporary style stands out from the crowd; Spacious and practical three-row cabin; Fuel-efficient four-cylinder turbo; User-friendly tech amenities

Cons: Interior lacks the polish of top rivals; Not as sporty to drive as European SUVs; Limited third-row legroom

Cadillac offers a straightforward lineup for the XT6, providing shoppers with Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport trim levels. Pricing starts around $48,000 for the Luxury trim — front-wheel-drive comes standard, while an all-wheel-drive system is available for extra peace of mind. It comes with amenities like fully automatic LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof, a power liftgate, leatherette upholstery, heated front seats, and remote engine start. Cadillac provides an easy-to-use eight-inch color touchscreen with voice controls and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto for seamless smartphone integration. Parents will appreciate the XT6’s standard Teen Driver features that allow them to set vehicle speed limits and keep tabs on travel history. Other safety technologies include standard forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking to help avoid accidents while out on the road. Lane-keep assist with lane-departure warning ensures the XT6 doesn’t accidentally exit its driving lane.

Stepping into the midrange Premium Luxury brings the MSRP to roughly $53,000, adding features like power-folding mirrors, a hands-free liftgate, leather seating, a heated steering wheel, and wireless smartphone charging. The Premium Luxury rounds out the XT6’s comprehensive safety systems with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors at the front and rear of the vehicle.

Buyers wanting those same features in a more fun-to-drive package can opt for the Sport model, priced around $58,000. All-wheel-drive comes standard, as does a specially-tuned suspension with active driver settings. These features and a quicker steering ratio give the aptly-named Sport more agile handling. Cadillac offers several optional packages for the XT6.

The Driver Assist Package adds advanced driver-assistance technologies like adaptive cruise control and reverse-automatic braking to help keep everyone safe while out on the road. An Enhanced Visibility and Technology Package is optional on the Premium Luxury and Sport, giving drivers a better sense of their surroundings with things like a digital gauge cluster, a surround-view camera system with recording abilities, and automatic parking assistance. Night Vision is also available on the Premium Luxury and Sport for enhanced visibility in low-light conditions.

The XT6 Luxury comes with a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine producing 235 horsepower and 256 lb-ft of torque, which is good enough to provide a 4,000-lb towing capacity. Front-wheel-drive is standard, while all-wheel-drive is a $2,000 option for extra traction in inclement weather.

The motor runs on premium fuel and connects to a nine-speed automatic transmission for a blend of performance and efficiency, returning an EPA-estimated 21 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. Premium Luxury and Sport models get a 3.6-liter V6 producing 310 horsepower and 271 lb-ft of torque. The V6 is smooth and powerful, delivering quick acceleration and effortless passing power.

Fuel economy is slightly below the class average, returning around 18/25 mpg city/highway. Performance components are equipped to the Sport trim for livelier driving manners, with a dual-clutch Sport Control all-wheel-drive system and Continuous Damping Control active handling. It also has a faster steering ratio for a more race-inspired driving feel and enhanced responsiveness.
